NOCTURNE SESSION (by Myriam Van Imschoot & Lucas Van Haesbroeck)

Nocture sessions: a sound workshop with Myriam Van Imschoot & Lucas Van Haesbroeck.

This day during the project week is about music and community. How can we establish communal sound without immediately falling back on the classic examples of singalongs, choirs and karaoke’s, etc? What does it mean to form a temporary community with sound as a binding element and form of communication? Can we create a piece that is a landscape of voices sliding, colliding, interacting, and landing back. An abstract piece that can also be concrete with a mission?

Myriam Van Imschoot makes “sound performances” with large groups. With Lucas van Haesbroeck, her co-creator, and Christophe Albertijn, Irena Radmanovic, Lieven Stockx, she is developing a new work Nocturnes for a Society for the Kunstenfestivaldesarts (premiere May 2023), in which the audience itself will create the soundtrack that will later accompany them in their sleep.

In preparation for this piece, the creators conduct research that they regularly share with a wider audience, particularly in a work form SESSIONS. They are coming also to _SCHOOL OF ARTS to set up a SESSIONS, especially with a focus on deepening a score or “score” that moves the audience to action. These SESSIONS are open to all students from all departments, their friends, mentors, etc. We are aiming for no less than the participation of 50 participants. Consonance becomes a gathering.
