Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens

With its contemporary arts operation, Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens aims to produce exhibitions with artists who are groundbreaking within certain recent artistic trends of the past decades but have not yet been shown in Flanders (or beyond) in a consistent way. Often these projects are considered pivotal moments in the artist’s career. Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens certainly does not want to limit itself to one single type of trend but is open to the diversity that is offered in the contemporary art world.

Within the contemporary operation, the choice is mainly made to work out individual exhibition projects. In contrast to group exhibitions, this form of exhibition allows a better picture to be created of the intrinsic value of a particular artist. Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens always wants to be a close partner of the artist. The joint development of a project, the mutual questioning and support in the search for the meaning and function of art is central. The museum primarily creates a mental space for dialogue, reflection, experimentation and creation.

In recent years, Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens has built a strong tradition of collaboration with artists who fundamentally question the museum as an institution, the position of the artist or the relationship with the visitor.

Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens works together in the framework of the Autumn Academy.
