Gents Kunstenoverleg

WHAT DOES THE ARTS CONSULTATION (GENTS KUNSTENOVERLEG) WANT TO DO?
Kunstenoverleg Gent wants to encourage and facilitate collaboration: within the Ghent arts and culture sector
between the Ghent arts sector and other sectors (tourism, education, economy, urban development, media, etc.)
between the Ghent arts sector and authorities in order to broaden impact and from there develop concrete actions that contribute to the large and small cultural imagination of the city.

HOW DO WE DO THAT?
1. by stimulating encounters and exchanges
2. formulating points of view
3. identify and support joint projects that respond to common needs

THREE FUNCTIONS OF THE GHENT ARTS CONSULTATIONS
The Ghent Arts Consultation fulfills three functions:

  • Reflection network: strengthens expertise by bringing together staff from different organizations.bring together. At the Brussels Kunstenoverleg this happens around policy, communication, cultural infrastructure, diversity,
sustainability, economy, Europe, public action, urban development, employment and tourism. They use different methods for this: sharing good practices, debates, meetings, reflection and working groups, training, information sessions, etc. (formal and informal). (formal and informal)
  • Policy advisor: both for urban cultural policy and for related fields such as mobility, spatial planning, education, poverty, integration, etc. Advocacy is a natural consequence and part of this. We approach this fully on the basis of substantive themes.
  • Platform for joint (artistic) projects: e.g. joint season openings, interpretation of Van Eyck 2020, New Year drinks, last-minute tickets, joint cultural communication,…. The arts consultation wants to focus on the strategic level, on long-term visions and on exchange and collaboration with other sectors. It is important that none of these functions get bogged down in micromanagement.

The Gents Kunstenoverleg is a partner of Cultuurplatform Arsenaal and the developments around diversity and inclusion.
